TOKYO—Japan asked the U.S. military to suspend flights by its Osprey aircraft after a fatal crash a day earlier rekindled local concerns about the safety of the tilt-rotor plane.
Japan’s coast guard, police and military continued search-and-rescue operations around the crash site Thursday for seven people who were in the Air Force’s CV-22 aircraft when it plunged into the sea near the southern island of Yakushima.
