Storage and network hardware provider Synology has announced the release of two new four-bay Synology DiskStations, providing all-in-one storage solutions for home offices and small businesses.
The new DiskStations – the DS423 and DS423+ – are powered by Synology’s versatile and powerful DiskStation Manager (DSM) operating system. Both storage servers provide comprehensive solutions to protect and manage business data, facilitate collaboration, provide remote file access, and serve as the core for an IP camera surveillance system, and all within a compact desktop format.
Both units support a whopping raw storage capacity of 72TB – that’s 4x 18TB disks – meaning you will have no shortage of disk space for your projects, whether for backups, file storage, centralised document management, edge node for distributed deployments, or anything else. And, as always with DSM, you have a wide range of options for how you configure your disks to ensure redundancy and protection in case of any disk failing.
“As a compact data storage solution, DS423 comes with everything users need,” said Synology product manager Michael Wang. “From backing up data, managing files and other media, to setting up a surveillance system to protect premises, the DS423 comes with a host of power-packed features in a small unit.”

Meanwhile, “the DS423+ offers exceptional value to users with limited storage requirements,” said Synology product manager Anya Lin. “It boasts 21% faster photo indexing over its predecessor, among other performance improvements, and continues to offer the comprehensive and robust features that our customers have come to rely on.”
Both devices deliver intuitive file management and sharing with Synology Drive, giving cross-platform file access, with the privacy of on-premises storage – not to mention the cavernous capacity with no ongoing subscription costs that you can’t get with cloud storage. It also offers site-to-site file syncing to mirror content for teams and businesses working remotely and across multiple locations.
You can also protect infrastructure from data loss with Synology Active Backup, supporting Windows, Linux, Hyper-V, VMware, Microsoft 365, and Google Workspace with the DS423+, and PCs, mobile devices, and NAS folders on the DS423. Further, you can set up and manage up to 40 cameras on the DS423+ and 30 cameras on the DS423 with Synology Surveillance Station and record footage simultaneously to the cloud using the optional Synology C2 Surviellance.
The devices both run DSM, but have some hardware differences:

ENABLE HYBRID CLOUD & REDUCE NETWORK LATENCY WHITEPAPER
Hybrid cloud promises to bring together the best of both worlds enabling businesses to combine the scalability and cost-effectiveness of the cloud with the performance and control that you can get from your on-premise infrastructure.
Reducing WAN latency is one of the biggest issues with hybrid cloud performance. Taking advantage of compression and data deduplication can reduce your network latency.
Research firm, Markets and Markets, predicted that the hybrid cloud market size is expected to grow from US$38.27 billion in 2017 to US$97.64 billion by 2023.
Colocation facilities provide many of the benefits of having your servers in the cloud while still maintaining physical control of your systems.
Cloud adjacency provided by colocation facilities can enable you to leverage their low latency high bandwidth connections to the cloud as well as providing a solid connection back to your on-premises corporate network.
Download this white paper to find out what you need to know about enabling the hybrid cloud in your organisation.
