The UK’s Institute of Travel (ITM) has published a new guide to help buyers build responsible travel programmes within their organisations.
The guide has been produced following the creation of the ITM’s Sustainability Taskforce earlier this year in response to buyers’ concerns about how to introduce best practices into their programmes, as well as influencing the behaviour of travellers to make more sustainable travel choices.
Kerry Douglas, ITM’s head of programme, said: “While business travel is only a small percentage of total global emissions, it is often a significant portion of the CO2 generated by many companies.
“There is, therefore, a growing demand for more responsible policies that help reduce emissions while enabling purposeful business travel to continue.”
The publication features practical advice for buyers, such as how to get started on making their programme more sustainable. This includes understanding your organisation’s carbon targets, identifying allies and engaging with them, getting the right data, as well as how to revisit targets and KPIs (key performance indicators).
“This guide will help travel managers future-proof travel programmes and contribute towards companies meeting carbon reduction targets,” added Douglas.
