(ANSA) – ROME, APR 26 – Premier Giorgia Meloni and her
Ukrainian counterpart Denys Shmyhal are among the officials
taking part in a bilateral conference in Rome on Wednesday on
Ukraine’s reconstruction after the Russian invasion.

Over 700 officials and representatives of business associations
and the main international financial institutions are
participating.

The aim is to learn directly from the Ukrainian authorities what
their reconstruction needs are in order to enable Italy’s
government, its agencies and businesses to formulate concrete
proposals for both ‘fast recovery’ initiatives and medium- and
long-term projects.

“It is necessary to conduct what the Premier has called a
Marshall Plan, an important, significant plan by the EU and the
Western community to organize the reconstruction of Ukraine,
which starts from now,” Business and Made in Italy Minister
Adolfo Urso told Rai radio.

“We have to do more and better in terms of humanitarian support,
but also regarding some economic activities that are necessary,
for example to support Ukraine to produce agricultural and
food-production machinery and sweep the fields of mines so they
can be harvested”.

There will be specific sessions at the conference focusing on
the areas considered to be the highest priorities for
reconstruction, such as transport and infrastructure, energy,
food and agriculture, health, aviation and the environment.

Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, Deputy
Premier and Transport and Infrastructure Minister Matteo
Salvini, Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti, and Carlo Bonomi,
the president of Italian industry confederation, Confindustria,
are also taking part.
