STEUBENVILLE — The Italian American Cultural Club mapped out plans for various events when members gathered for the April business meeting and dinner held at Scaffidi’s Restaurant and Tavern in Steubenville.
A lasagna and roast lamb meal was part of the club’s celebration of “Buona Pasquetta” — Easter Monday or “Little Easter” — a day that, in Italy, represents a chance to continue to celebrate the arrival of the Easter season with friends and family, picnics and parties, a member explained.
It also offers “a second go at the leftover delicacies that every Italian family makes with pride in preparation for Easter Sunday, always preparing much more food than the Easter guests can consume,” it was noted.
“Some Italians — especially in the North — celebrate the day by inviting friends who were not at the Easter Sunday celebration, to come over to ‘finish’ the food. Sometimes the day is called ‘il lunedi dellangelo’ — Monday of the Angel, representing the biblical meeting of the women and the angel outside Jesus’ empty tomb.”
During the business portion of the meeting, members were given an update on planning for the annual “Campo Italiano,” which will take place from June 19-23. They also discussed the upcoming meetings on May 8 at the Mingo Knights of Columbus Hall as well as the annual IACC Scholarship Awards dinner.
The latter will be held June 12 at St. Florian Event Center in Wintersville,
