(ANSA) – ROME, MAR 16 – ISTAT on Thursday revised Italy’s
annual inflation rate for February down from 9.2% to 9.1%.

In February 2023, it is estimated that the national consumer
price index for the whole collectivity (NIC), gross of tobacco,
will register an increase 0.2% on a monthly basis and 9.1% on an
annual basis, from +10.0% in the previous month, said ISTAT,
revising its preliminary estimate which was +9.2%.

The decrease is the result of of the easing of tensions on
energy goods prices, both the regulated and non-regulated
component, said the national statistics institute.

However, there is continued upward pressure on prices of food,
processed and unprocessed, tobacco and services, almost all of
which are in an accelerating trend.

The inflation ‘trolley’ of most frequently bought items showed
an annual increase of 12.7% in February, ISTAT said, up from
12.0% in January. (ANSA).
