Several major airlines have suspended flights to Israel following the outbreak of conflict with Hamas.
Cathay Pacific, easyJet and Lufthansa were among the airlines to suspend flights amid warnings from air safety agencies that carriers should exercise caution when flying into Israeli airspace.
Major US airlines have also cancelled flights, and on Sunday Delta Air Lines and United Airlines warned that disruption could last all week.
Ben Gurion International Airport near Tel Aviv, Israel’s main gateway, was not closed however, and several major carriers were still operating flights on Monday.
Shares in European airlines fell on Monday following a rise in the price of oil.
Budget airline Wizz Air fell 7 per cent, while easyJet was 4 per cent lower and BA down 3.5 per cent lower in morning trading.
