An insurance-led fundraiser has raised over £8 million that will go towards Alzheimer’s Society and its efforts to improve the lives of people with dementia in the UK.
Insurance United Against Dementia (IUAD) achieved one of its most successful years over the last 12 months, with the proceeds going towards pioneering dementia research and life-changing support services to help the 900,000 people with a dementia diagnosis in the UK.
IUAD received this support from firms across markets, individual contributions, and the collective effort from the insurance industry, including the Insurance Day of Giving (IDOG).
IUAD chair and Aon head of climate strategy Richard Dudley said that this milestone was a testament to colleagues who have both led and contributed to this campaign since IUAD’s establishment in 2017.
“The goal we set as a group behind IUAD was to raise £10 million. Our focus now turns to how we galvanise continued and new support to help us achieve this ambitious target. We are told that there has never been a more exciting time in dementia research. We are motivated by this to help raise further funds that could lead to future breakthroughs to help improve diagnosis, slow the progression of symptoms, and provide hope for everyone living with dementia,” Dudley said.
Support for those suffering from dementia could not have come at a better time, as Alzheimer’s Society said that 1 million people will be living with the condition in the UK by 2025. One in three born in the country today will develop the disease.
