Kylie Jenner fans think the reality TV star’s new laidback look is thanks to rumoured beau Timothee Chalamet but it’s argued The Kardashians star is actually preparing for big business move
Kylie Jenner, 26, has seemingly entered a new era of her life as The Kardashians star shows off a new look over recent weeks, with one celebrity expert predicting a savvy business plan is the reason behind the vibe change.
Once known for her love of elaborate staged fashion shoot and (allegedly) using Photoshop image-editing software before sharing snaps on social media, Kylie is rocking a “cottagecore aesthetic” on her grid these days – with the mum-of-two spending her days making pasta from scratch and enjoying picnics while wearing floaty dresses and minimal makeup.
While Kylie hasn’t completely ditched her previous bougie lifestyle – it was revealed some pricey bottles of booze were involved in one recent picnic thanks to the carefully curated snap shared on Kylie’s Instagram – fans of the cosmetics giant guru have questioned if her new image is down to rumoured boyfriend Timothée Chalamet.
“Timothee took these photos,” one Instagram user quipped on Tuesday as Kylie shared pictures from her picnic, with another adding: “croissants are french.. and you know who else is…” Kylie and the Dune actor, 27, have been romantically linked for several months now but are yet to go public.
“They are keeping things casual at this point. It’s not serious, but Kylie is enjoying hanging out with Timothee and seeing where it goes,” a source told ET Online earlier this month. “It’s been really fun for her because it feels a lot different than her past relationships. It’s new and exciting for Kylie and she’s having a lot of fun.”
While many of Kylie’s fans are confident Wonka actor Timothee is the reason for The Kardashians star seemingly ditching an excessively fake and glamorous lifestyle, one celebrity culture expert argues Kylie’s new “mature look” hints a new business venture is coming from the 26-year-old mum-of-two.
“Kylie’s more mature and romantic look shows fan’s she’s growing up into a woman who’s comfortable in her own skin. She’s slightly older now and a mum, which perhaps offers perspective on reality vs reality TV and celeb life,” PR expert Carla Speight explains. “For her brand, this stripped ‘makeunder’ look makes her seem more accessible to the 30 something age range of women who are largely forgotten when it comes to fashion and makeup.”
Kylie, who is worth millions thanks to her cosmetic and fashion companies, could also be gearing up to launch a new product, with Carla adding: “At age 26 she is bound to be conscious of the big ‘3-0’ approaching and no doubt the entrepreneur will already be thinking of how she can connect with that age group and build her empire around them.
“As a celeb, she is entering a mature looking and stripped back era, that offers her the opportunity to step into becoming a credible celebrity, rather than just a reality star who got lucky with her brand. She is clearly in a reflective phase and is growing into her womanhood and motherhood effortlessly.”
While many of Kylie’s fans are looking back fondly on her past looks and lifestyles – like the King Kylie era on Snapchat – Carla argues the reality TV star’s vibe shift is a positive message to her younger followers. She explains that although Kylie’s new look may be all about the minimal aesthetic, it could see a massive boost to her already bulging bank balance.
Speaking exclusively to the Mirror, Carla explains: “For her fans, this is empowering to see. We’re so used to seeing her dolled up to unrealistic heights of glamour, when most of her followers are just ordinary people. This new era will empower her followers who already carry the ‘makeunder’ look in their day to day.
“It also sends a message to be comfortable in your own skin, which is a hugely positive message for her young followers especially. This ‘makeunder’ look is such a great one for Kylie. Her entrepreneurial side is no doubt working on something special to capitalise on the positive reaction and it’s about time we see the Kardashians under the glamour.
“These days it’s important for celebs to ‘keep it real’ in order to stay connected with fans and share relatable moments with their followers. Despite the pricey picnic, Kylie has achieved that in this post and with such a positive reaction, we will no doubt be seeing more of this mature and romantic side of the influential entrepreneur.”
Kylie previously hinted heavy makeup and glamourous outfits wasn’t really what she was about and a new look was on the horizon, saying: “People think they have a perfect idea of who you are from a four-second Snapchat video… and fake blogs, stories, magazine covers. In reality, that’s not the case. Nobody knows who I am except family and my close friends.”
The mum-of-two kick-started her cosmetics in 2015 when she used $250,000 of her modeling earnings to launch a line of lip kits, before later admitting to using filler to give achieve her plump pout. Kylie went on to sell 51% of Kylie Cosmetics to publicly traded Coty, Inc. in January 2020 for $600 million; pocketing around $540 million, pretax. The savvy star still owns around 44% of the lucrative company.
“It’s the power of social media. I had such a strong reach before I was able to start anything,” Kylie previously admitted when discussing her empire. Discussing her influence on young fans, she added: “I never feel pressure to be a good role model. I always try to do my best to inspire people to be good and do the right thing, but I just can’t live my life always trying to be a good role model.”
