(ANSA) – ROME, JUN 16 – Italy’s annual inflation rate fell to
7.6% in May, down from 8.2% in April, according to a final
report released by ISTAT on Friday.
The drop took the inflation rate back down to the level of
March.
The slowdown still appears to be strongly influenced by the
dynamics of energy goods prices, the national statistics
institute said.
In the food sector prices of processed products showed a
softening of their growth on an annual basis, which contributed
to the deceleration of core inflation (down to +6%). Finally,
the slowdown in the year-on-year growth of ‘shopping trolley’
prices of most frequently bought products continued, which
amounted to +11.2% in May, down from 11.6% in April and 12.6% in
March. (ANSA).
