PUNE: To mark the beginning of a year-long programme to celebrate 75 years of bilateral relations between Sweden and India, a round table on innovation and sustainability was organised on Saturday by the Consulate of Sweden in Mumbai and its Embassy in New Delhi.
Swedish state secretary for foreign trade Håkan Jevrell and several industry leaders arrived in Pune for the same.
Consulate General Anna Lekvall, recently-appointed Swedish Ambassador Jan Thesleff and Indian Ambassador Tanmaya Lal were present. Deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis participated in the round table with select CEOs of Indian and Swedish companies.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was entered into between Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and Sweden-India Business Council (SIBC). The MoU will focus on waste-to-energy green initiatives, financial services including export credit financing agencies in Sweden, sustainable infrastructure and transportation, and defence sector manufacturing, a statement by the Swedish Consulate stated.
Fadnavis said, “India and Sweden have had long-standing relations based on common values, strong business, investment and R&D linkages, along with similar approaches to meet the global challenges of peace, security and development.”
Of the 260 Swedish companies in India, 43 are in Pune, including some of the largest manufacturers. The commitment from governments and businesses from both sides will ensure even greater collaborations, added Fadnavis.
