Recently an Indian delegation including over 15 artisans and entrepreneurs from Jammu and Kashmir explored textile opportunities in France and attended Foire De Paris.
The Foire de Paris is a major retail event that has been held annually in Paris and it is being organised this year from 27th April to 8th May.
The event also had an Indian pavilion, inaugurated by Jawed Ashraf, India’s Ambassador to France, and Romesh Khajuria, Chairman of the Wool & Woollens Export Promotion Council (WWEPC).
Romesh Khajuria said that the delegation from India includes over 70 individuals comprising entrepreneurs, artisans, weavers, and exporters from various parts of the country.
He said that the event was a good opportunity for Indian SMEs to interact with the buyers, buying houses and agents from France and neighboring countries.
This participation has also provided a much-needed opportunity for the SME sector to discuss the latest opportunities and new developments in the respective field and disseminate and publicise their business in the global markets.
It is worth mentioning here that France is one of the largest importers of textiles and apparel worldwide, with textile products worth US $ 30 billion being imported, accounting for 75 per cent of France’s total textile imports. In last fiscal, India’s exports of textile products to France reached US $ 920 million, a 4.42 per cent increase from the previous year.
