A milestone anniversary highlighted by about 5,000 projects is being celebrated by a local design firm.
Design West Architects recently reached 40 years in business, with its work ranging throughout Idaho and into neighboring states, focused on everything from museums to schools.
Founded in 1983 as a “regional spin-off” of Salt Lake City-based Architectural Design West, DWA originally was located in Boise. These days, the firm calls Meridian its home, with four offices added since to Pullman and Spokane and Kennewick, Washington, and Ontario, Oregon. The company serves clients throughout Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington.
Over the years, the firm has designed approximately 5,000 projects ranging from K-12 schools, colleges, municipal, commercial and health care facilities and multi-family housing structures. The six principal architects with DWA have an average time of 17 years with the company.
Among its notable projects, DWA touts the University of Idaho Albertson College of Business and Economics building and the Teaching and Learning Center, Washington State University’s Palouse Ridge Golf Course Clubhouse and the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, the West Richland Police Station, the Caldwell Parks and Recreation building, and a myriad of elementary and high school buildings throughout all the states they serve.
“With a solid history and bright future ahead, the company is looking forward to completing the next set of projects currently in design and under construction,” a release stated. “Upcoming new builds and renovations include the Pullman Regional Hospital Expansion, WSU Taylor Sports Complex, University of Idaho JW Martin Lab upgrades, Chelan Douglas Regional Port Authority Trades District and Libraries of Stevens County.”
Several more school designs and upgrades are also in the pipeline for the firm, which shows no signs of slowing down.
