I visited a quirky town cafe and was pleasantly surprised by what I found

When you come across the word “grocer”, it’s common for your mind simply to simply think of a shop that sells fruit, veg and some other everyday produce. While this may be the case most of the time, a grocer in Wadhurst is so much more than this, merging two business ideas essentially into one.

Whether you fancy quickly picking up a few supplies or heading somewhere for lunch, The Artful Grocers in Wadhurst will indeed not disappoint. Priding itself on being a sufficient greengrocer and an “extensive deli”, this all-in-one grocer/cafe business has a real edge to it that does not disappoint.

On stepping into the building, the site of the counter was the first thing that really grabbed my attention, with some stunning-looking bakery items which I had to resist indulging in. From a Bakewell tart to some delicious-looking cakes, the selection at the counter is a dream for anyone with a sweet tooth.

On sitting down at one of their wooden tables, which give a chic yet cosy vibe, I scanned the menu and was delighted to see plenty of brunch and lunch options, perfect for a midday stop-off. Opting for a sauasage sandwich and some pastry treats from the counter, I settled down at the table to soak in the atmosphere, which was warm and welcoming

Despite it being midday on a Wednesday, there were many people enjoying lunch at the cafe, which is one of the factors that made it appeal to me so much. The other was the price, with the sausage sandwich costing less than £5 and is filling enough to be a sufficient lunch.

When served my food, which took less than ten minutes, I was satisfied with the quality of the product and the portion size, as well as the speedy service. I could tell the produce was fresh and cooked to perfection, which was clearly one of the factors that made the independent shop so popular.
