(ANSA) – ROME, OCT 31 – Outgoing Bank of Italy Governor
Ignazio Visco said on the last day of his 12 years at the helm
of the Italian central bank Tuesday that he left an
“authoritative and independent” institution.
“I leave behind an authoritative, independent Bank of Italy,
profoundly renewed and yet still open to renewal and, in the
changing times and regulations, intimately faithful to its
history and its commitment to pursue, without fear and without
compromise, the interest of the community”, Visco said in a
letter to BoI staff on his last day in office.
Looking back over his 12 years as Governor and over 50 at the
bank, Visco said that at every moment “I have clearly perceived
the profound sense of our work, the importance of tackling it
with rigorous method, integrity and civic passion”. (ANSA).
