A Kelowna-based online video game and software development company has won a B.C. Export Award.
Hyper Hippo was one of three finalists in the digital media and entertainment category. The company’s games, which include AdVenture Capitalist and Dungeon Dwarves, have been installed over 80 million times worldwide.
The game systems support 11 languages in more than 170 countries.
“This award represents the collaboration and creativity of our dedicated team, as well as the substantial input from our advisors and partners,” Emma Bullen, a Hyper Hippo director, said in a Thursday release.
“Our journey is all about creating entertainment that delights and connects our audience,” company CEO Sam Fisher said in the release.
The company was founded in 2012. Its ‘chief visionary officer’ is Lance Priebe, who co-founded the online game Club Penguin in 2005 before selling it to Disney for $700 million in 2007,’’
In unrelated court filings earlier this year, a B.C. Supreme Court justice noted Hyper Hippo employs 122 people, most of whom work from remote locations. The company had revenues of $31.7 million last year, according to the firm’s consolidated financial statements.
The B.C. Export Awards were created in 1982 to recognize achievements by businesses in a variety of fields. More than 300 companies have received awards, and the program is supported by Export Development Canada and the provincial government.
