Massive crowds built up outside the Police Headquarters in Port Moresby along the Poreporena Freeway as early as 7am yesterday as Ialibu Pangia Member Peter O’Neill was brought in for an interview at 9:40am.
The two hours interview ended at 11:48am seeing victorious cheering and chants outside Police headquarters as soon as Mr O’Neill stepped out with team of police investigators from headquarters after he was charged with three counts of giving false evidence before a commission of inquiry on separate occasions whilst being under oath section 10 A of the Commission of Inquiry Act, 1951.
Despite the disastrous deal made nine years ago securing K4 billion to acquire shares from Oil Search it did not stop his supporters who gave their voice of the controversial UBS-Union Bank of Switzerland loan outside Boroko Police Station.
Nearby shops closed and roadblock set off outside the station of the rowdy crowd expressed frustrations openly to police and media stating that he should be treated with respect as the country’s leader and for the people of Southern Highlands.
“He should not be move around like a criminal and those leaders and individuals involved in the deal of USB loan back in 2014 must be brought in for questioning as well.
“Why is the Police Com-missioner David Manning singling out the case of him only and conducting interview leaving others out,” angry supporters said.
Mr O’Neill addressed the crowd saying that politics has gone to another level and all evidences gathered are now before police and will be made available in court.
He thanked the good work of police and supporters who turned up to support him.
