When Liverpool won the English Premier League in 2020, ending a 30-year dry spell for the club, something about the title still felt hollow. The relief didn’t wash over the city quite the way anyone expected it to.
That’s because it was the season of the pandemic—there could be no public celebration. The best team in the country lifted the trophy inside an empty Anfield stadium. The players never got their open-top bus parade.
