Bac Ninh, Vietnam, Nov. 28, 2023 – Hitachi Energy, a global technology leader that is advancing a sustainable energy future for all, celebrates a significant milestone with the inauguration of its cutting-edge Transformers Factory in Bac Ninh, Vietnam.
With a history of over three decades, Hitachi Energy has played a pivotal role in supporting Vietnam’s infrastructure and industry, contributing to the country’s energy transformation by integrating more than 30 percent of its renewable energy into the grid.
“Vietnam’s Power Development Plan sets clear pathways for a carbon neutral energy system by 2050, including strengthening its position as a leading manufacturing base in the region,” said Chandan Singh, Country Managing Director – Vietnam, Hitachi Energy. “This factory underscores our continued commitment to advancing a sustainable energy future for all.”
The new transformers factory embodies Hitachi Energy’s dedication to advancing technology, ensuring exceptional quality, and adhering to world-leading manufacturing processes. Electricity will be the backbone of the entire energy system and this expansion ensures that the operations in Vietnam can significantly contribute to the energy transition in the region and the world.
This modern transformers factory specializes in liquid-filled power and distribution transformers. It is set to nearly double the previous factory’s annual capacity while adhering to the most stringent global standards. This expansion empowers utilities, industries, and infrastructure sectors across the Asia Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa to enhance transformer asset performance while minimizing environmental impact.
This investment aligns with the company’s global capacity expansion plan to meet the accelerating energy transition demand*3. “The Bac Ninh factory inauguration will help us in advancing the world’s energy system to be more sustainable, flexible and secure. ,” said Bruno Melles, Managing Director, Business Unit Transformers, Hitachi Energy.
The Bac Ninh Transformers factory currently employs more than 500 people to support the social and economic progress of the local community. The company is also committed to sustainability with the factory receiving the LEED Gold certification*2, with the use of 100 percent fossil-free electricity in its operations and has designed following environmentally responsible measures such as high Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) roof materials, rainwater harvesting, wastewater recycling, and indoor air quality monitoring with CO2 sensors.
As an example of the business commitment to developing innovative solutions for the energy industry, the factory will produce distribution transformers with TVP® (Transient Voltage Protection) Technology*4. This revolutionary solution significantly enhances the reliability of distribution transformers, offering complete protection against transient voltages in multiple applications like Data Centers, Solar, and Wind renewable generation.”
