A business plan competition and awards ceremony honored entrepreneurs
Daunting tasks are part of life. Doctor’s visits and uncomfortable conversations are at times necessary. For entrepreneurs, however, creating a detailed business plan can be just as overwhelming. Sometimes this important step is avoided altogether.
The Florida Small Business Development Center (FSBDC) at Hillsborough helps both budding business owners and seasoned professionals create strong strategies to help shape business concepts. This year, Small Business Week was recognized from April 30 – May 6 and FSBDC at Hillsborough celebrated with an Inaugural Business Plan Competition.
Over 20 hopeful entrepreneurs applied by submitting a business plan and 10 were selected to present their plan to a panel of judges. The applicants came together on May 3 at Hillsborough County’s Entrepreneurial Collaborative Center to compete for cash prizes donated by area banks and credit unions and headshots from a professional photographer. This year’s winners include: First Place, Michael Jones, Wood and Handz LLC; Second Place, Michaelle Doricent, Lyndor Labs LLC; Third Place, Crystal Greene, Money Greene Solutions LLC; and Honorable Mention, Kathy Times, communications strategist.
Also celebrated at the USF Marshall Center during the 2023 FSBDC Business Award Celebration Luncheon were Dell and Greg Rabinowitz, owners of Urban E. Recycling. The Rabinowitzes have partnered with FSBDC at Hillsborough for years and were honored to be selected as the FSBDC Women Owned Business of the Year. Dozens of small businesses spanning six counties applied.
