Giorgetti doubts Italy at debt downgrade risk – English

(ANSA) – ROME, OCT 4 – Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti
said Wednesday he doubted that Italy was at risk of a sovereign
debt downgrade as rumoured in some media reports.


“Is Italy at risk of a sovereign rating downgrade? ‘These are
headlines, you as journalists rightly believe them, I have a
legitimate doubt”, he said at ‘Sky 20’.


“Like every six months,” he explained, “we have judgements from
rating agencies, as in all university exams you prepare and then
you go to the exam and explain the reasons for a strong economy,
the second largest manufacturing economy in Europe, a country
rich in creativity that deserves to be unleashed.


“But it has a large public debt and must be careful not to make
blunders.” (ANSA).
