The Indian stock market and MCX will be closed for trading on Monday, December 25, on the occassion of Christmas. All trading activities across cash, derivatives, and Securities Lending and Borrowing (SLB) segments will be suspended on this day. The closure extends to the Currency Derivatives Segments, Equity Derivative Segment, Commodity Derivatives Segment, and Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR) Segment, as mentioned on the BSE website. This marks the last trading holiday of the year for the Indian financial markets.

Normal trading activities in the stock market will resume on Tuesday, December 26. The trading day will commence at the usual time of 9:15 am after a 15-minute pre-opening session, as specified on both the BSE and NSE websites.

MCX closure

  • The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will observe closure for both the morning and evening sessions on Christmas Day, December 25.
  • Trading on MCX will resume on December 26, according to the information available on the MCX website.
  • MCX typically conducts morning sessions from 9 am to 5 pm and evening sessions from 5 pm to 11:30/11:55 pm.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) has released a circular indicating that financial markets in India will observe an additional 14 days of closure in 2024, excluding weekends. This extended closure is in consideration of various festivals and holidays.
