Germany’s Economy Contracted in 2023, as Economic Model Faltered

Germany’s economy contracted in 2023, hit by high inflation that squeezed consumer spending, with the country’s creaking industrial model also suffering from weak global demand.

Price adjusted gross domestic product declined 0.3% compared with the previous year, according to preliminary data published Monday by Germany’s statistics office Destatis.
