Gene Ruben Achziger was born March 23, 1947, in Spokane, Washington, and passed away peacefully surrounded by his four children in Butte, Montana, on April 20, 2023.

Gene Joined the military and was a Vietnam veteran. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he worked and retired from Spokane Valley Garbage. He was not one to ever stay idle and became the successful business owner and operator of Vic’s Vinyl Tops and Upholstery as well as a small used car lot. He always loved to be working and dabbled in many different business ventures and did so until his body physically no longer could, but he had a sharp mind and was constantly coming up with new business ideas. He also had a great sense of humor, and you never really knew if he was being serious or not until he gave you that side eye with his mischievous grin. He enjoyed camping and fishing at Lake Thomas and had always been a car enthusiast. He was also known for being a little “ornery” but had a huge soft spot in his heart for his children and grandchildren.

Gene was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Achziger; and his sister, Mathilda Rupnow. He is survived by his children, Randolph Achziger (Jennifer), Debra Hamm (Carl), Nichole Barnes (David), Kimberly Achziger; and eight grandchildren, James, Jessica, Jake, Joseph, Daymon, Kaden, Woody, and Nash; his siblings, Charles Achziger (Sandy), Gladys Riegt (Don); and numerous nephews and extended family.

Dad, Grandpa Geno, Gene you will be greatly missed.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. The family would appreciate any donations made in Gene’s name to go to the Spokane Humane Society or the Wounded Warriors Project.
