France’s new COVID-19 cases up by more than 18,000 for second day

PARIS, Oct 8 (Reuters) – French health authorities reported 18,129 new COVID-19 infections on Thursday, with the daily tally staying above 18,000 for the second day running after Wednesday’s all-time high of 18,746.

The figures were published shortly before health minister Olivier Veran holds a news conference, scheduled for 1600 GMT, during which he is likely to announce new restrictions to contain the disease. (Reporting by Benoit Van Overstraeten; Editing by Catherine Evans)
