PARIS (Reuters) – French President Emmanuel Macron said on Wednesday that anyone violating a curfew to be imposed in major cities would be fined 135 euros ($158.61).

Speaking in an interview broadcast on national television, Macron said that, while the curfew lasts, people would have to forget about night-time visits to restaurants or to friends’ houses. Essential trips during curfew would still be allowed.

He said there would be no restrictions on public transport, and people would still be able to travel between French regions without restrictions.
