The Fox Business Network pulled ahead of its main rivals to emerge as the leading business network for the year.

The channel, which celebrated 15 years of broadcasting in October, topped CNBC with an average of 224,000 overall viewers during the business day hours from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Time (6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Pacific Time), beating CNBC’s 209,000 total viewers during that same time period, according to Nielsen figures provided by the network.

Fox Business also grew its viewership in the key demographic coveted by advertisers, with the network grabbing 22,000 viewers between the ages of 25 to 54 during the business day. CNBC’s viewership among the same demographic was 42,000.

Total day viewership — measured as a single, 24-hour period starting at 6 a.m. Eastern Time — saw Fox Business draw 134,000 total viewers and 14,000 viewers in the key demographic during a typical broadcast day in 2022, according to Nielsen ratings.

“As we close out our 15th anniversary year, I couldn’t be prouder of the entire team at FOX Business,” Lauren Petterson, the president of Fox Business, said in a statement Wednesday. “Our pivotal coverage of the markets and signature [Fox Business Network] Prime slate delivered a record year, and we are honored to be the network America has chosen for their business news.”

While the ratings represented growth at Fox Business, it also signaled a shift away from CNBC, which saw the lowest average viewership among key demographics since 1992 and lackluster ratings in prime-time. During after-market hours, CNBC airs a single business-related show — “Mad Money” with Jim Cramer — followed by re-runs of programs like “American Greed” and “Shark Tank.” Last month, the channel canceled its prime-time news program, “The News with Shepard Smith.”

Fox Business has a single news analysis show that runs in prime time: “Kennedy,” hosted by Lisa Kennedy Montgomery. The remainder of the prime-time line-up consists of shows like “Mansion Global” and “American Dream Home.” Fox Business also airs programs pulled from Fox Nation, a standalone streaming service, including “Historic Battles for America” and “Legends & Lies,” both hosted by actor Kelsey Grammer.

Citing Nielsen data, a spokesperson for the network said prime-time programming on Fox Business saw a 15 percent year-over-year growth with total viewers and a 10 percent increase in viewers in the key advertiser-focused demographic.

The Fox Business Network is part of Fox News Media, which is owned by Fox Corporation. Fox News Media’s other brands include the flagship Fox News Channel, streaming service Fox Nation, Fox Weather, Fox News Books and Fox News Audio.
