Nigerian betting platform, BETBABA, has called on the National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC) to implement rules that will discourage addiction to gambling among Nigerians.
The firm made the call, yesterday, at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Lagos, during the launch of its platform. It maintained that legal age for betting which is 18 years old must not be compromised.
The Managing Director, BETBABA, Francis Ifie, said the company, apart from being in business for profit, will follow global best practices and put its customers first and in control.
In his words: “It is important that we have facilities on our betting platforms in Nigeria that encourages responsible gaming and gambling. There are a lot of people that are addicted to gambling, so on our own platform, we have done a lot in promoting self-exclusivity where a person that feels he’s getting addicted on our platform can exclude himself or ban himself from the platform.
“On our part, if we see any betting pattern that indicates someone is addicted, we send them notices to tell them that they are overbetting and put some limitations.”
Ifie added that not betting responsibly has caused problems to people who are addicted to it, stating that the National Lottery Regulatory Commission should impose certain rules to ensure that betting operators adhere to strict measures that will discourage addiction.
Speaking on the company offerings, he said: “We have a unique user journey where upon registering on our site, we begin a one-on-one relationship with the client. As a platform, we have several things such as multiple of the day; give bonuses to our customers on their birthday and others. We are far different from other platforms and we are coming out with a bang.”
He further said there are three main product categories on offer; Sport, Virtual sports, and e-sports.
“Our long-term goal is to own market share in Nigeria aside looking at markets in other African countries.”
