Fifa has signed a long-term sponsorship extension with its global airline partner Qatar Airways that will run until 2030.
Contract:
- Latest deal covers 2026 World Cup, 2027 Women’s World Cup and 2030 World Cup, as well as Fifa youth tournaments
- Qatar Airways to engage with fans at tournaments and through various digital platforms
- Fans will get access to exclusive travel packages, including match tickets, flights and accommodation for select Fifa tournaments, through a dedicated Qatar Airways platform.
Context:
Qatar Airways has been a top-tier Fifa partner since 2017, with the national flag carrier receiving prominent exposure at the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, the latter of which was held in Qatar, plus the 2023 Women’s World Cup. Financial terms of the latest extension have not been disclosed but the deal is expected to be worth hundred of millions of dollars.
As well as Fifa, Qatar Airways’ other notable soccer sponsorship deals cover the likes of French champions Paris Saint-Germain and Italian giants Inter Milan. However, Germany’s Bayern Munich opted not to renew their partnership with the airline this year, following a backlash from fans.
Comment:
“Today I am very proud to announce the renewal of our partnership between Qatar Airways and Fifa,” said Fifa president Gianni Infantino. “It is a great partnership that has brought a lot of success to Fifa, and of course as well to Qatar Airways.
“My thanks to Engr Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, the GCEO, and to the whole fantastic team of Qatar Airways. One year after the Fifa World Cup in Qatar, here we are again to celebrate.”
Coming next:
The latest partnership kicks off with the ongoing Fifa U-17 World Cup in Indonesia.
