A group of clerics, academics, and business experts have encouraged Nigerians to embrace entrepreneurship, be productive,  and optimise opportunities for financial growth, instead of giving 100 per cent attention to prayer alone, warning that prayer alone will not bring wealth and success.

The shift in mindset, which is expected to have a positive impact on individuals and the nation as a whole through establishment of small, medium,  and large scale businesses, came in the wake of the removal of fuel subsidy and the subsequent worsening economic conditions in Nigeria.

The speakers made the collective assertion at the launch of two books written by Pastor Kola Soladoye, titled “How to Start Your Own Business” and “Principles of Wealth Creation,” held at the Western Hall, Oyo State Government Secretariat,  Agodi, Ibadan.

The chairman of the occasion, Prof John Fagbrenro, urged Christians to embrace entrepreneurship as a means to achieve a balanced, prosperous life.

He stated that Christians should devote 50 per cent of their efforts to business ventures, while still maintaining their spirituality, in order to thrive in today’s challenging economic landscape.

Pastor Soladoye, the author of the books, expressed his concern for the lack of job opportunities for the youth and his desire to see them become successful business leaders through the teachings of Jesus Christ. He emphasised the importance of shunning unscrupulous means of acquiring wealth.

“I am confident that the books will go a long way to turn mind into an entrepreneur of meaningful significance in the face of jobless situation we find ourselves in our dear nation,” he said.

Mr. Simeon Adeogun, a business expert and the book reviewer, highlighted the fact that salaries are no longer sufficient to cover living expenses. He urged Christians to not only rely on their jobs but also start businesses to supplement their income, as this is the only way to achieve prosperity. He stressed that Christians should put their faith into action and strive to be productive and resourceful in all areas of life.

His words: “The stage we are now as a nation is to swing into action. Be productive and resourceful through business. If a Christian does not have any business doing, there is high potential to be poor. Christians are good at praying and fasting, but they need to be more productive this time through any business irrespective of any amount. The books is a guide for Christians to manifest in all ramifications.”
