Europcar slashes emissions from employee car use

Car rental firm Europcar has managed to cut emissions from its own UK employees using company vehicles by 85 per cent in the past 18 months.

Europcar Mobility Group has been working to reduce the impact of its company car emissions as part of its One Sustainable Fleet decarbonisation strategy.

The company said it had been working with fleet management specialist CBVC Vehicle Management to make it easier for staff to select company electric vehicles through a Driver Vehicle Selection Portal, which includes videos reviews and vehicle trade-up options. Cash allowance drivers have also been able to opt back into the company car scheme so they can use EVs.

Ron Santiago, managing director of Europcar Mobility Group UK, said: “We know that we must ‘walk the talk’ when it comes to reducing carbon emissions and that has to start with our own company car fleet.

“It’s great to see our colleagues enthusiastically embracing zero emissions with almost all of those who opt for a company vehicle now driving electric. By making the process straightforward for Europcar employees to understand their company car options, CBVC is helping them and us make the switch more easily.”

These changes have helped to increase electric vehicle take-up by Europcar’s UK staff to more than 90 per cent.
