ESM must change, become vehicle for growth says govt – English

(ANSA) – ROME, APR 26 – The European Stability Mechanism
bailout fund must change and become a vehicle for growth,
government sources reiterated Wednesday citing recent media
interviews by Premier Giorgia Meloni.
   
Most recently, they said, last Friday, in an interview with Il
Foglio, she explained that it should be ‘updated’ and
transformed into a ‘vehicle for growth’.
   
While the EU urges Italy’s approval of the ESM, the examination
of the two bills for its ratification, presented by the
centre-left opposition Democratic Party (PD) and the centrist
opposition Italia Viva (IV,) party has been at a standstill for
almost a month in the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chamber
of Deputies.
   
The arrival in the Chamber, initially scheduled for April, has
therefore been postponed (ANSA).
