Equinor’s BeGreen to enter Germany with big growth plans

Solar developer BeGreen, part of Norwegian oil and gas group Equinor ASA (OSE:EQNR), will enter the German renewable energy market by opening a local office amid broader plans to build up a “strong presence” in the country.

Utrecht, Netherlands-based BeGreen said on Monday it is getting ready to open an office in Berlin within the next few months, from where it will manage its German operations. Lars Josten, a solar industry veteran and former CEO of German engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) firm Pfalzsolar GmbH, will be at the helm of the business.

Establishing a strong presence in Germany has a pivotal role in BeGreen’s business strategy and is seen as “an important building block” to Equinor’s renewables position in Northern Europe. The company, which Equinor agreed to acquire in November 2022, already has an over 6-GW project pipeline in Denmark, Sweden, and Poland.

“We welcome BeGreen’s plans to expand to Germany to further strengthen the pipeline of large-scale solar projects. This is in line with Equinor’s position as a trusted and reliable energy and decarbonization partner for Germany,” said Nina Scholz, Equinor’s Country Manager Germany.

BeGreen operates as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Equinor. The company aims to develop, build and operate 1 GWp of capacity annually by the end of 2025.
