Home appliance maker Balmuda Inc. is developing a wind power generator combined with solar panels that is small enough to install on the yard or rooftop of an individual home.
“We hope to contribute to the way energy is produced, not just the way energy is used,” said Gen Terao, CEO of Balmuda, during an Aug. 8 news conference on the corporation’s financial results. “There would be nothing more wonderful.”
According to the company, the generator design takes advantage of specialized technology used in Balmuda’s electric Green Fan.
Available in the market since 2010, the Green Fan is characterized by its dual structure with five inner blades and nine outer blades that create “gentle winds resembling natural ones.”
This double-layered system will be incorporated into the planned wind power generator.
Since the design allows wind to be captured over a larger surface area, Balmuda anticipates that even a very compact unit will accomplish high levels of energy generation efficiency.
An outdoor verification test is slated for this autumn.
The product’s release date has yet to be determined.
Seeking new fields of business, Balmuda entered the cellphone industry with Balmuda Phone in 2021. However, in May this year, Balmuda announced its withdrawal from the market after less than two years.
