On the sidelines of the high-level segment of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Sameh Shoukry, Egypt’s Foreign Minister, met with his Cypriot counterpart, Konstantinos Petridis, emphasizing the robust and strategic friendship between the two nations.

Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesperson and Director of Public Diplomacy at Egypt’s Foreign Ministry, noted the discussions underscored the strength and resilience of the strategic ties binding Egypt and Cyprus. He welcomed the progressive development in their bilateral relations over recent years across political, economic, and cultural dimensions. Both nations have expressed mutual support in various regional and international forums.

A significant portion of the conversation was dedicated to enhancing economic and investment cooperation between Egypt and Cyprus. Minister Shoukry stressed the need to translate political rapport into tangible projects that benefit both nations, setting a standard for bilateral relations. Furthermore, he highlighted Egypt’s commitment to boosting Cypriot investments, especially in the fields of natural gas and electrical connections, recognizing these areas as strategic cooperation avenues.

The ministers also acknowledged the importance of overcoming obstacles to expedite shared projects, building on the outcomes of the recent visit by the Cypriot president to Egypt last April, which resulted in the agreement to establish a joint business council.

From his end, the Cypriot minister expressed deep appreciation for the historical ties and strategic relations with Egypt. He shared his nation’s aspirations to further strengthen their collaborative framework and continuous efforts to enhance trilateral cooperation with Greece. The Cypriot minister also conveyed gratitude for Egypt’s support for the Cypriot cause, aligned with UN resolutions, which ultimately promotes regional security and stability. He commended Egypt’s role as a cornerstone of stability in the Middle East and Eastern Mediterranean, including its efforts against terrorism and illegal migration.
