Arsenal ended the weekend on top of the Premier League table after Kai Havertz’s dramatic winner against Brentford on Saturday.

The Germany international scored an 89th-minute header to secure a 1-0 victory for the Gunners on the road. Arsenal are one point clear of Manchester City in second after Pep Guardiola’s side dropped two points at home to Liverpool in Saturday’s early kick-off.

Arsenal are back in Champions League action on Wednesday, as Lens travel to the Emirates. The Gunners will secure their spot in the last 16 of the tournament with a game to spare if they avoid defeat to the French side, who beat them 2-1 in the reverse fixture.

Here are the latest headlines from the Emirates ahead of Wednesday’s game…

Edu’s transfer target

Arsenal’s sporting director Edu will try to sign Douglas Luiz in the January transfer window. The Brazilian midfielder, who is valued at €55milliom (£47.8m) by Transfermarkt, is one of Aston Villa’s most important players, having scored five league goals this season.

The Gunners tried to sign Luiz in August 2022, but Villa refused to sell and persuaded the international to sign a new contract until June 2026. Despite being rebuffed, Arsenal are expected to launch a new bid for Luiz when the transfer window re-opens shortly.
