(ANSA) – ROME, AUG 16 – The European Commission on Wednesday
confirmed it would read a letter from European airlines alleging
that Italy is breaching free market rules with its proposed cap
on air fares to several domestic destinations.
“We are examining it,” said an EC spokesperson.
He reiterated that “the Commission’s services have contacted the
Italian authorities and expect to receive more detailed
information on the contents of the measure in question.
“The Commission supports measures aimed at promoting
connectivity at accessible prices, provided they are in line
with the norms of the EU’s internal market”. (ANSA).
