AHMEDABAD: Dutch companies have proposed to invest ₹1 billion in Gujarat over the next seven years in the ports and shipping sector, confirm well-placed sources. A delegation led by the representatives of Netherlands Business Support Office (NBSO) along with executives of a Dutch companies met the chief minister, Bhupendra Patel, to discuss the project.
The delegation proposed the investment to turn the Pipavav Port into the world’s first carbon-neutral port. When contacted, officials of NBSO declined to comment on the matter. “The project is still at proposal stage. If executed, the Pipavav Port will be world’s first carbon-neutral port. This is a big step. We anticipate an investment of Rs 3,500 crore in the years to come,” said a top source in the state government.
The CEO of the Dutch company which made the proposal was also present at the meeting held with the CM. In the past, Dutch companies have invested in several sectors including agriculture, agriculture food processing, equipment manufacturing, among others. Sources confirmed that Dutch companies are also eyeing collaborations in the healthcare and pharma sectors in the state.
