DROITWICH’S Brine Baths could bring in over a million pounds in annual profit if restored, according to a business plan put forward at Droitwich Spa Town Council’s latest full meeting.

Save Our Brine Baths (SOBBS), a campaign group dedicated to restoring Droitwich’s historical asset, addressed Droitwich Spa Town Council at a full council meeting on Monday September 25.

The presentation outlined general operating costs for the baths including beauty and physio therapist staffing, and hospitality outlays determining a potential yearly revenue of £1,620,000 minus operating costs of £555,000.

The revenue aims to come from a £10 cost per customer for use of the facilities, an estimated £7.50 spent by every other customer on food and drink, and the cost for special treatment procedures from physio or beauty therapists within the facilities.

Possible locations for the site included Droitwich Lido, the site of the last baths which was built in the 1980’s and closed in 2008 or the site of the disused Raven Hotel.

A floor plan was also presented to councillors which included the brine pool, a physiotherapy and beauty treatment room, a gin bar, a snug, toilets and shower facilities – a plan which SOBBS say can be developed interchangeably at any of the proposed sites.

Councillors supported the plans with Coun Richard Morris remaining optimistic for the future of the project and Coun George Duffy praising SOBBS for their resilience in campaigning for the restoration.

Lee Edwards, SOBBS director and business manager, told the Standard: “Our sole mission is to get the brine baths back and whoever can help us do that, we are really pleased to work with.

“We can’t call ourselves a spa town without putting our spa back.

“The support from everyone at the meeting and our past success in outline planning applications for the baths show how much the people of Droitwich want them back.

“We have a lot of intellectual property to inform design decisions, we can contribute expertise and are perfectly prepared to turn into full blown funding mode.”

SOBBS chair, Bill Moy thanked the council for their time and emphasised the level of help the campaign needs in order to restore the brine baths.

Mayor, Coun Kate Fellows said the baths would be ‘fantastic’ for tourism.
