A Dorset welding and fabrication business has recently received a loan from the British Business Bank’s Start Up Loans programme.

Bridport-based Arc Edge Metalwork has secured £18,000 from the bank to invest in equipment and a new unit. Founded by Alastair McGoldrick, Arc Edge Metalwork will be able to buy vital pieces of kit, including a welding table, plasma cutter and a trailer for its mobile welding service.

Arc Edge Metalwork also offers a maintenance and repair service as well as bespoke projects.

Mr McGoldrick said: “Having that money behind me has been very important. I probably could have moved into the new unit without it, but I would have been walking on a tightrope.”

He added: “I would have been doing a couple of jobs here and there before waiting for the money to come in before I could then reinvest in the business.”

Having the right finances in place has given Mr McGoldrick the confidence he needed to develop Arc Edge Metalwork. He now hopes to carry on building his customer base and even hopes to take on an apprentice in the future.
