The Nigerian community in Colorado Springs, United States of America (USA), which converged on the community’s city centre to celebrate Nigeria at 63, has implored Nigerians to unite for the betterment of the country.
The colourful event served as avenue for Nigerians living within and outside the community to bond and mingle, as well as discuss driving investment into the country to improve the nation’s economy.
The event, according to the organisers, also served as a platform for Nigerians in the Diaspora to partner with some American business class on investment opportunities in the country.
One of the guests at the event, Mayor Yemi Mobolade, acknowledging Nigeria’s vibrant cultural heritage, called on Nigerians in the Diaspora to join hands with those back home to build the nation to an enviable height that foreigners would come to live in and invest.
Also, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Black Chambers of Commerce, Rodney Gullatte, emphasised the importance of economic collaboration and partnership, saying it is the way to empower the people and grow the nation’s economy.
Although the celebration was low key in Nigeria, members of the community were loud, signifying a commitment to the ongoing cooperation that exists among Nigerians in the community.
According to the statement sent to The Guardian, Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Day celebration in Colorado Springs was not just a commemoration of the nation’s history, but a testament to the vibrant multicultural mosaic that has enriched the city.
“The event emphasised the significance of fostering social, cultural, and economic ties within the Nigerian community and extending these bonds beyond their heritage. With love and harmony, we continue to celebrate our great heritage, sharing the bonds of our culture as we mark the 63rd Independence Day,” it stated.
