Devote leftover NRRP cash to business – Bonomi – English

(ANSA) – ROME, APR 30 – Carlo Bonomi, the president of
Italian industry association Confindustria, has said that EU
funding from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP)
that the government is unable to spend within the set deadlines
should be redirected to help the country’s businesses.

“The government should present a precise list to Brussels of
NRRP projects that we are not able to do in order for them to be
reallocated,” Bonomi said in an interview in Sunday’s edition
of daily newspaper Il Messaggero.

“We propose devoting a large part of the left-over resources to
investment incentives for businesses”.

Italy is having trouble to implement all of the projects
envisaged in the NRRP, a huge plan to make the Italian economy
greener and more modern, with the help of almost 200 billion
euros in EU grants and low-interest loans, within a time scale
that will see them all completed by 2026.

Rome is in talks with the European Commission on rejigging the
NRRP.

Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti said Saturday that a
solution that will make it possible for Italy to have its third
instalment of cash from NRRP was close.

The green light for payment of the 19-billion-euros third
tranche had been put on hold while the Commission assessed
progress on implementation. (ANSA).
