Decathlon has appointed Raphaël Goumain as its global Chief Marketing Officer. Goumain, who previously served as the marketing head at Google France since 2015, brings a wealth of experience to his new role at the French sporting goods retailer. This significant addition to Decathlon’s leadership team follows Jimena Almendares’ appointment as head of digital.
A graduate of the prestigious HEC business school in Paris, Goumain’s journey in marketing began 14 years ago when he joined Google as a product manager. Prior to his tenure at Google, he held positions at prominent organizations including the BHV department store, Camif-Maltesom, Capgemini Consulting, and Mappy.
Expressing his enthusiasm about joining Decathlon, Goumain shared his sentiments on Linkedin: “For those who know me: I have always loved sports from an early age and practiced it intensively. Sport has been one of the best learning experiences in life for me personally, it has helped me to grow both individually and together with others. On that journey, Decathlon was, and is, the most reliable companion I could dream of. So when the opportunity arose to join this extraordinary company – and more importantly, the incredible people who work there – I didn’t hesitate.”
Decathlon, with a commercial presence in 72 countries, reported substantial growth in 2022. The company’s sales reached € 15.4 billion, marking a 12 per cent increase from the previous year, while net income remained stable at € 913 million.
