DBS Foundation has entered into a partnership with the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) to promote digital inclusion in Singapore.
Despite Singapore’s ongoing efforts to create a digitally inclusive society, disparities persist among various demographic groups, including age, income, and persons with disabilities, particularly in the areas of digital skills and technology usage. These disparities exacerbate existing social inequalities and hinder individuals’ readiness for a digital-centric future.
In response to this, DBS Foundation and IMDA are collaborating to support Singapore’s national Digital for Life movement. This collaboration aims to improve access to digital literacy training and amplify digital inclusion efforts across the nation.
DBS Foundation is contributing SGD 1 million, matched by the government, to the Digital for Life Fund. This fund provides grants to individuals and non-profit organisations involved in projects and activities that promote digital inclusion within the community. Additionally, the bank will contribute ideas or problem statements for fund applicants to consider addressing in their projects.
The bank will also be mobilising a minimum of 2,500 of its employees, in collaboration with community partners such as the SG Digital Office, to conduct 800 digital workshops. These workshops cover various topics, including digital banking and payments, as well as strategies to recognise and avoid online scams.
To accommodate individuals who prefer traditional banking services, some of these sessions will be held in select DBS/POSB branches.
DBS is also collaborating with IMDA to co-develop and refresh the digital literacy curriculum, tailoring it to cater to the specific needs of various segments of the population, including seniors, youth, and individuals with special needs.
Lastly, DBS is also actively exploring new communication channels and partner platforms to accelerate digital adoption among the broader population.
