If results go our way, then we could be celebrating Euro 2024 qualification on Tuesday night.
But this is Scotland and if we’ve learned anything following this national team of ours, then it’s not to expect things to fall into our lap. Steve Clarke’s men are in Cyprus for tonight’s crunch qualifier and it may be a cliche, but they can only focus on themselves as they look to beat the Larnaca heat and make it five wins from five.
That would mean results next midweek, when the Scots welcome the Auld Enemy to Hampden, could see a place in Germany next summer confirmed. But the likelihood is that more points will be required against either Spain next month or Georgia in November. First things first though, and getting the job done in Cyprus is all the matters for now before we can break out the lederhosen and start dreaming about cold, frothy steins.
The Record Sport team share their thoughts on how they see it going.
KEITH JACKSON
Our clubs may be accident prone on their travels but Steve Clarke and his players are the exception to the rule. Three more points will all but secure a place at next summer’s finals.
Cyprus 0-2 Scotland

We might as well accept it’s going to be a tense, nervy night. But Scotland know how to get the job done and they will get there in the end.
Cyprus 1-2 Scotland
SCOTT BURNS
It will be another glory night in this Euro qualifying campaign. Cyprus were stuffy at Hampden and will be the same again at home. I just feel Scotland have the momentum and the likes of John McGinn and Lyndon Dykes will come to the fore.
Cyprus 0 Scotland 2
DAVID MCCARTHY
It’ll be hot and sticky in Larnaca but this is the kind of game that brings us out in a cold sweat. It’ll be tough but Steve Clarke’s side has the quality and mentality to get the result the nation craves. The manager would bite your hand off for a 1-0 win and I reckon that’s what we’ll get.
Cyprus 0 Scotland 1
GORDON PARKS
Steve Clarke’s side will continue to ride the wave and have too much quality all across the pitch. This isn’t a side which folds under expectation.
Cyprus 0 Scotland 2
CRAIG SWAN
Steve Clarke has Scotland tight at the back and scoring goals at the other end. The troops can make it five wins out of five on the Road to Germany.
Cyprus 0 Scotland 2
ROSS PILCHER
In previous years, this sort of fixture would be a worry in the heat. But this Scotland team have taken care of business when it’s mattered during this campaign and they’ll have enough to see off a stubborn Cyprus.
Cyprus 0 Scotland 2
