In a recent working meeting between Cyprus and India held during the Best Invest Congress in Limassol, Marina Hadjimanoli, Deputy Minister of Shipping, emphasised the invaluable asset that shipping represents for Cyprus, while praising the close relations between the two countries.
During the meeting, Marina Hadjimanoli expressed her gratitude to Madhumita Hazarika Bhagat, the High Commissioner of India to Cyprus, for the invitation.
She highlighted the exceptional opportunity this meeting provided for participants to stay updated on the latest developments in the business and investment sectors, engaging in meaningful exchanges on various topics of mutual interest and exploring the opportunities offered by both countries.
“These high-profile events,” she stated, “are extremely significant and supported by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, as they enhance Cyprus’ position as a modern, efficient, and leading business centre”.
Hadjimanoli pointed out that shipping is a sector that Cyprus takes great pride in, noting that it constitutes an invaluable asset for the country, with significant political and economic advantages.
In addition, she highlighted the ranking of the Cyprus shipping registry as 11th among international fleets and 3rd within the European Union.
Additionally, she underlined the friendly and close relations between Cyprus and India, two Commonwealth countries that have always maintained long-term cooperation in various fields.
Furthermore, she noted that the shipping sector is no exception to the strong ties between Cyprus and India, which have been further reinforced after the signing of the Agreements on Merchant Shipping. The first agreement was signed in 1997, followed by an updated version in 2017.
In her closing remarks, Hadjimanoli wished success for the meeting, stating that “as the competent maritime authority of Cyprus, we have an ambitious and clear vision with specific goals for Cypriot shipping, and we are determined to further strengthen Cyprus’ position in the global maritime industry”.
“It is important for Cyprus and India to continue working together to achieve our common objectives, both domestically and internationally,” she concluded.
