Corporate Travel Management (CTM) has expanded its sustainable travel programme Climate+ to include carbon forecasts and carbon budgets.

The tool was first introduced in 2020 and the Australia-based TMC said the latest additions, which include in-app booking nudges and total emission analytics, will “support every step of a corporate’s business travel sustainability journey”.  

According to the company, a new carbon calculator will allow clients to input data related to flight, hotel, train and car hire activity by location, route and travel class in order to forecast emissions and build “realistic, actionable carbon budgets”.

The TMC’s online booking tool and mobile app, Lightning, provides “granular” emissions data in search comparisons and allows travel managers to assign carbon budgets to a certain department, group or individual travellers based on monthly, quartlerly or annual quotas. A ‘carbon approver’ can also been assigned and carbon transfers established to help manage team-based carbon allowances. 

CTM EMEA chief technology officer, Brian Sheerin, said: “We frequently hear travel managers saying they are under extreme pressure to demonstrate progress in making their travel programmes more sustainable, but they don’t have the correct toolset in their travel tech stack to make a meaningful impact.”

As a connected suite of tools available exclusively to CTM clients, Sheerin said Climate+ shares data “seamlessly”. 

“Our ethos is simple – the easier we make it for clients to drive change, the bigger sustainable impact they can make – and that’s Climate+ in a nutshell,” he added.

Additional features include ‘green choice’ fare labels highlighting greener travel options at point of search, as well as emissions comparisons between air and rail options with automatic dual searches on relevant routes, carbon emissions dashboards and offsetting options.

The TMC was recently awarded the Achievement in Sustainability – Corporate Booking Platform at the BTN Group’s inaugural Business Travel Sustainability Awards Europe, which took place in London on 22 May.
