It happens once a year.

“It’s a very important day for small businesses, it’s our day,” said Jacob Daniels, co-owner of the Gem on Penn in West Reading.

Small Business Saturday… encouraging communities to shop small.

The Gem On Penn is just one of the places people are stopping at.

Daniels gave away free gifts to customers making purchases.

“It’s definitely good to know that there’s a nice relationship between the customers and the businesses,” said Daniels.

Down the street at the Holistic Skateboard Shop, J.D. Turner said it has been a pretty busy weekend.

“I know a lot of the business owners plan for this for a couple months now,” said Turner.

Saturday marks the lighting of Easton’s Peace Candle, bringing hundreds of people downtown for Small Business Saturday as well.

“Small Business Saturday this year has been fantastic,” said Ian Walker, Easton Outdoor Company sales associate.

Shoppers have been stopping in at the Easton Outdoor Company.

“It’s really good just, you know in combination with the winter village. It’s great all around,” said Walker.

Christmas Carols echoed through the Winter Wonderland Craft Show at the Allentown Fairgrounds.

It lasts all weekend long.

“It’s great to have a small business where you can really get to know your customers and be able to see somebody smile with their purchase,” said Julie Thomas of Thomas Brothers Western.

The day is what Firefly Bookstore co-Owner, Matthew Williams said is like a mobile party, with people going store to store in Kutztown.

“This holiday is great and we love Small Business Saturday. We love having it every single year,” said Williams.
