An industry golf event with a difference is to take place at Cleeve Hill Golf Club in Gloucestershire from May 18-19.
The aim of the two-day event – called The Cotswold Trophy – is to bring the broad spectrum of sectors that make up the golf industry together for two days of fun and competitive action, as well as offering the opportunity to socialise and network with other golf industry professionals.
Simon Pope, General Manager of Cleeve Hill said: “We see the creation of this event as an opportunity that couldn’t be missed. The support we have received since the reboot of golf on Cleeve Hill in 2021 has been overwhelmingly positive and what better way of celebrating than bringing the golf industry together. We look forward to welcoming teams for two days of great golf and warm hospitality during which we can showcase this fabulous course.”
The event – which is a being run by the club and Legacy Golf Advisors, which has been working with the club for the past year – will commence on the afternoon of May 18 with a 12-hole St Andrews Foursomes format followed by an evening party in the clubhouse. The following day’s 18-hole round on May 19 will be a Golf Sixes format with on-course refreshments provided by Cleeve Hill’s iconic Land Rover Defender.
“The history of Cleeve Hill is hard to believe,” said Stuart Gillett from Legacy Golf Advisors. “When we first heard about Cleeve we were captivated by the story. Very few places can lay claim to having Old Tom Morris and Alistair Mackenzie as integral parts of their history. When you combine this with the truly unique setting it provides a wonderful opportunity for golf that is a little different. That is what we are looking to create with this event.
“The golf industry has grown and changed over the past five or so years, we now have such a wide range of sectors in the industry that are becoming more prominent, from podcasters to influencers to the traditional elements such as club managers and greenkeepers. There are very few events that bring everyone together and we figured Cleeve would be the perfect place to do just that.”
Teams will represent their sector of the golf industry to add a competitive element to the event and provide bragging rights for those who come out on top of the leaderboard. The event is being supported by some of the industry’s prominent businesses and brands, including Toro, Golf Genius, Sounder, Golf Monthly, Mashie and Savills.
Andy Brown, Senior Manager for Global Business Development and Relationships at Toro, commented: “Legacy Golf Advisors invited me to an event last year at Cleeve Hill and it truly is an incredible place. The history of ‘golf on the hill’ was fascinating and Toro are delighted to support this new industry event in 2023. The concept of bringing together the different sectors of the golf industry is a great one and hosting at Cleeve makes it even more exciting as there will be many in the industry that aren’t aware of quite how incredible the course is.”
The cost to enter a team of four for The Cotswold Trophy is £500, to include all golf, food, refreshments and prizes. Accommodation is not included, although recommendations for local hotels, pubs with rooms, and guesthouses in the local Cheltenham area are available on request.
