Byron McCorkell is now deputy CAO, while Kamloops Fire Chief Ken Uzeloc will also head new protective services department
The City of Kamloops has announced a new corporate structure it says will put more emphasis on council’s strategic priorities and implement succession planning to meet current and future needs.
Byron McCorkell, who had been community and protective services director, has been promoted to the new role of deputy chief administrative officer.
The city’s longtime chief administrative officer, David Trawin, will continue in that position.
McCorkell will now lead the city’s intergovernmental relations activities, as well as projects like Build Kamloops, a council goal to build myriad facilities, including a performing-arts centre.
McCorkell will retain directorship over the new community and culture department, which includes recreation, culture, and social and community development. He will also oversee the communications and community engagement division.
A new protective services department has been established that encompasses Kamloops Fire Rescue, community services (bylaws office), emergency management and RCMP support services (municipal staff). This new department will be led by Kamloops Fire Rescue Chief Ken Uzeloc, who will also remain head of the fire department.
There are no changes to the departments of civic operations, development, engineering and sustainability; corporate services or human resources and safety. All directors, including McCorkell, will report to Trawin.
